Do you know that in Essentrics we always start the program with gentle spine stretches? We do so not just to loosen the joints or the major muscles in the back. Between the vertebrae are tiny muscles that cross the joints, connecting, stabilizing and giving movements to the vertebrae. They also help PROPRIOCEPTIVE signals to reach the spinal cord and the brain. In case you wonder, they are signals about movements, the intensity of those movements, and relative location. When we wake up these small muscles, therefore, the brain can better register our movements during and after the workout.
